VETERINARIAN CARE
At Pawmetto Hounds we take the extra steps to provide the absolute best care for all our hounds and their puppies. Our breeding dogs all have all been health and genetically tested with clear results, including Lafora which was added in 2022. Our basset hounds are taken to our reproductive veterinarian for a health exam and any needed testing before each mating. Our basset hounds if unable to mate naturally are mated by AI or TCI by our reproductive veterinarian. They go to our veterinarian for all prenatal care, progesterone testing, ultrasounds, and x-ray this helps prevent any complications and ensures a healthy pregnancy.
Puppies arrival
Our puppies are delivered in our home with the assistance of my husband and I or by a scheduled c section.
Our puppies are taken to the vet as follows:
2- weeks for a health exam and deworming.
4 - weeks for a health exam, deworming and fecal test.
6 - weeks for a health exam, deworming and fecal test.
9 - weeks health exam, 2nd vaccine, deworming, fecal test and puppies are micro-chipped.
**And puppies will be taken anytime in between if veterinarian care is needed.
All puppies in my care or that have gone to their forever homes will still need their 3rd vaccines at 12 weeks and their final vaccines between 15-16 weeks.
Please always remember that ALL puppies aren't fully protected against any contagious disease such as Parvo until 2 weeks after their final vaccines around 18 weeks old. Please limit their possible exposure by keeping them mostly at home and away from people and especially from high-risk animal places such as pet stores, dog parks and vet offices. When taking your new puppy to the veterinarian office to complete their vaccines please carry them in a basket, wagon or stroller. Also, for socialization before your puppy is fully vaccinated walks are great using a wagon or a stroller.
